A quaternary quinolinium iodide salt. It is permanently charged, so it behaves badly on plain C18 and requires an ion-pairing additive; several submitted reports show no retention at all, which is a method finding rather than a material finding. The diagnostic impurity is the unreduced 5-nitro precursor at +30 Da, and levels above 1 % indicate an incomplete reduction step. Brown or yellow-tinged lots are almost always iodine from photolysis, and the index records appearance verbatim for that reason.
