Kestrel is the newest and fastest contributor to the index and the one whose results require the largest correction. Its 15-minute gradient is below the index's minimum acceptable length for the acylated incretins, and the effect is measurable rather than theoretical: Kestrel's purity results read a mean +0.24 pp above the reference across all compounds, and +0.51 pp on the incretin class specifically, where mass-identical diastereomers co-elute into the main peak on a gradient that short.

The index publishes Kestrel data because the alternative — discarding it — would remove a substantial part of the coverage for several thinly-tested suppliers, and because a known and quantified bias is more useful than a missing observation. But it applies two safeguards. Kestrel incretin results are excluded from class-level purity aggregates and are shown on compound pages under a separate heading. And every Kestrel record carries a method-limitation note naming the specific impurities that its gradient does not resolve for that compound.

Identity is at unit resolution, with the same consequences described for Medutest. Repeatability is the widest in the index at 0.34 pp, which is consistent with a short gradient and a young method.

Kestrel's value in the index is as a screening tier: it is well suited to answering "is this roughly what it says it is", and not suited to answering "is this 99.1 % or 98.4 %".

Methods offered

What a laboratory can measure decides what a record can establish. A submission that orders only purity produces a record that names nothing.

  • RP-HPLC purity (%area, 220 nm), 15-min gradient
  • LC-MS identity (single-quadrupole, unit resolution)
  • appearance and reconstitution assessment

Figure 1. Distribution of purity figures reported by Kestrel. This is not a distribution of material quality — it is a distribution of what this laboratory was sent, which is a different and unrepresentative sample. Compare its shape against another laboratory's rather than its position: a short gradient compresses the left tail because unresolved species are counted into the main peak.

Agreement with the other laboratories

Each row is a paired analysis: batches where this laboratory and another one both assayed the same physical lot. A difference on a matched pair is bias plus noise, and it is the only clean way to compare laboratories.

Provenance of what this laboratory receives

A laboratory that mostly receives supplier-supplied samples produces a record set with a known upward pressure on it, however good its analysis is. This is a property of the submission channel and not of the laboratory.
