Afamelanotide is a linear 13-mer, not a cyclic peptide, and is often sold as "Melanotan I" alongside the cyclic MT-II under names that imply they are the same series. They are not; the masses are 623 Da apart. Afamelanotide's dominant impurity is Met sulfoxide and its levels are the highest of the melanocortin group, which is consistent with the compound's known photosensitivity.
